How does photo recognition work?
Your photo is passed through our secure server to an AI service; the dishes, estimated portions and nutrition values come back in seconds. You can correct anything before saving.
Why only one photo analysis a day on the free plan?
Every analysis costs real money on the AI service, and Melby has no ads and no account to pay for it. One free analysis a day is what we can carry without charging everyone. Melby Pro raises it to 10 a day. Everything else — search, barcode, water and weight tracking, quests, badges, reports — has no limit and never has. The counter is shown on screen and resets at midnight.
How accurate are the values?
All calorie and macro values are estimates. We are accurate at naming dishes; for portions, use the slider on the result screen to fine-tune. Talk to a professional about health decisions.
Where do the recipe calories come from?
They are not copied from anywhere. Each home dish in our food list is calculated from its ingredients, and the recipe screen shows you that same calculation — every ingredient line carries its own calories. That is why the recipe and the food list always agree: they are the same numbers.
Where is my data stored?
Your journal, profile and weigh-ins stay on your device and sync to the private iCloud space tied to your Apple ID, so your entries come with you to a new phone. Apple manages that space; we cannot see it. No account is needed and there is no ad tracking. Photos sent for analysis are not kept afterwards. Details in the Privacy Policy.
I do not want iCloud sync — can I turn it off?
Yes. iPhone Settings > (your name) > iCloud > Apps Using iCloud, then switch Melby off. The app keeps working completely; your entries just stay on that device.
Does it work without an internet connection?
The journal, search and weigh-ins work fully offline. Photo analysis and barcode lookups need a connection.
The barcode was not found — what now?
The product may not be in the Open Food Facts database. You can add the food by search or by photo instead.
How is my calorie goal calculated?
With the Mifflin-St Jeor equation: your age, height, weight, sex and activity level give your daily energy need, then the weekly pace you chose is added or subtracted. It updates automatically on every weigh-in.
Can I switch the app to English or Turkish?
Yes, inside the app: Settings > Appearance and Notifications > Language. The default follows your phone. You can also switch between kilograms and pounds there.
How do I manage my Melby Pro subscription?
Apple handles subscriptions. Go to iPhone Settings > (your name) > Subscriptions to change or cancel your plan; the Melby Pro card in Settings opens the same screen. If you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
I moved to a new phone and my purchase is missing
Tap Settings > Melby Pro > Restore Purchases. As long as you are signed in with the same Apple account, your purchase comes back.
